Our Pastor

Pastor Barry Van Steenburg, and his family, came to Radford to serve as our pastor in July 2003.  While his roots lie in upstate New York, Pastor Barry has also lived in Indiana as well as in Mississippi.  He was involved in ministry for eight years before coming to Radford. He served in children's ministry while attending Indiana Wesleyan University, in Marion, IN where he received a Bachelor's Degree in Christian ministries. From there he and his family moved to Jackson, MS where Pastor Barry was able to attend seminary at Wesley Biblical Seminary.  He was involved in youth ministry while there.  After graduating from Wesley Biblical Seminary in May 2003, with a Master of Divinity Degree, Pastor Barry and his family came here.

Pastor Barry and his wife, Christy, both grew up in up-state New York, and met for the first time just before they left for college at Indiana Wesleyan University in August 1995.  They have been together ever since and were married in July 1997.  They have four children: Barry III (2000); Austin (2001); Seth (2004); and Caleb (2006).

Pastor Barry and Christy are a very engaging couple and are excited about being in Radford to serve.  Pastor Barry came not just to serve this church, but this community.

 History

Of the Radford Wesleyan Church:

In 1901 the Virginia Association for the Promotion of Biblical Holiness purchased two lots in the city of Radford.  In 1908 these lots were sold and later that year a building was erected.  The group that purchased these lots later became the Radford Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1922.  A parsonage was added to the property in 1938.  The current brick building was erected in 1964 after tearing down the original frame.  After the denominational merger of the Pilgrim Holiness Church with the Wesleyan Methodist Church in 1968, our name was changed to the Radford Wesleyan Church.

While our church has been built upon a rich heritage that dates all the way back to the early 1920's, we believe our only hope is to have a strong future.  And so we will continue to look forward; we will continue to search the heart of God to always become what He wants us to become.  We trust the same way our founders did: "Our BEST days are still to come!"

However, in order for our "best days" to come, we need YOU.  Wont you consider being our guest?  We believe once you visit our home, you'll want to make it your home too!
